social awareness
May 31, 2006I showed my blog to Manny. Manny is my schoolmate from Elementary to College. I was bored and he was AIDS (As IF Doing Something) so I decided to show him this crap(naa na pud koy naliba LOLS). Anyways, I told him to make some comments however he refused. He said that he was disappointed coz he expected some entries containing social issues, the plight of the poor and the Lumad… something that exhibits my critical thinking…being a person for others kind of stuff. Unsaon na lang daw ang pagka-Assumptionista/Atenista…in short Aktibista!? Manny, that was a long2x time ago, another lifetime…another me.
It’s been a while since I last read a newspaper. I think it was Manila Bulletin, Sunday edition while I was still job hunting. And besides if I ever get my hands on one I immediately scan the pages for Youngblood (If Inquirer) and then proceed to the horoscope then the comics and the movie schedule. Not in any particular order. I rarely watch news on TV. Every morning, when I wake up I’m still half alive and when I get home from work I’m half dead.
On the internet…I’m too busy blog hopping.
On AM/FM radio…naah…rubbish!
In short, I just don’t care anymore. I make no efforts to make myself socially aware. I guess I’ve been self absorbed lately. I can’t even understand myself, how can I understand society? Also, they say that the outside is a mere reflection of what’s’ inside a person. So I’ll try to fix myself first and save the world later. Why am I justifying myself to you Manny? Don’t get any ideas…I’m not trying to impress you or anything. It’s just that a social issue would have been a good topic. I might just make an entry that makes sense for once in my life.
I was actually seriously considering to write a post regarding any social concerns.The Da Vinci Code is a social issue. But nah..i’ve run out of words to say after commenting on other blogs. Anyways, I was still pondering on what to write for Manny when I was informed that we are invited to attend our company’s Port Inauguration. They say our port is the biggest in the universe…Mindanao lang bitaw. So off we go to the Port, a 30 minutes drive from our office.
When I got there I was surprised by the prestigious guests, Japanese investors, Mayors of neighboring cities, councilors …typical Trapos. Aha! A social event with politicians present…I think I’ve just found myself a piece. It was the usual stuff, blessing, cutting of ribbon, speech, recognitions, more speech and a cultural dance presentation. Maybe because of all the Japanese present . . .our company decided to showcase something ethnic (sayang.dili original). I was getting hungry and I it was chow time when unfortunately there was still a speech left. A speech by the honorable (name withheld for fear of the DDS), I decided to listen. He talked about the cultural dance presentation…did he forget to prepare a speech or what!? Ah so he made some comparison between the dance and our company…something about unity…dynamic relationship between our co and the local government. Your typical bullshit. Anyways, I was about to dismiss his speech when he got to the good part…He kept on mispronouncing our company’s name…thrice! Anyway he must have noticed the dagger looks pointed his way or he must have noticed the 5 foott billboard sign at the stage coz he corrected himself. He was applauded for that. Alright!
@the port
That’s all. Does that qualify for a social issue? Man, can I get back to you? I’ll write you a better piece next time. Something even Sr. Eupy will be proud of. I have a topic in mind… actually two topics and I’m somewhat torn. Should it be “The Social, Political, Ecological, Spiritual impact of the Banana Industry in our city” Or “Going Bananas:What kind of Banana are you?” ?
Oh Shit! I’m getting so corny that I can’t help but smile
I’m still bored though. Corny and bored. Cornybore-ous! Tama na please!!!!

I wonder what Sr. Eupy is doing right now…i think you should start memorizing Taylor Hicks' Do I Make You Proud…sing it to her when you meet again…I bet she'll scold you for not singing Lumad songs…hahaha

for me, a blog is a tool for self-expression whether some people like what is being written or not. it's not for pleasing others, right?… otherwise it won't be ur blog anymore. just write from the heart, raine. keep it up! =)
