The Philippine Idol
July 31, 2006
I am an avid fan of American Idol. I was looking forward to how our very own Philippine Idol would fare. However, I am not too optimistic about it coz the networks have this wonderful way of ruining an international show or to simply put it “Filipinize” the show and the show will eventually lose its essence (remember Pinoy Big Brother).I watched the opening of the P.I.(parang mura!) yesterday. It was generally OK but why can’t TV shows resist capitalizing on people’s misery? It seems that every singing contest on Philippine TV has transformed into a “Wish ko lang” show. Aren’t there happy people anymore? Do all contestants really have sob stories to tell? Are there any contestants who just want to share their talents? Any who are motivated by plain greed and a shot at stardom?
The judges
Ryan Cayabyab-I just hope Mr. C won’t emulate Simon Cowell coz nobody can be like Simon. And everybody who attempts to be like him ends up making an ass of him/herself.
Pilita Corrales- I hated it when she discriminated Davao. Saying that “Davao is not the place to look for an ‘Idol.’ All the good ones are in Cebu,” Hellor! Didn’t she know that Juris of MYMP, Jay Durias of South Border, Champ of Hale, Jinky of Freestyle all hailed from Davao? I mean I’m not saying that all singing talents can be found in Davao but she really should not release statements like that. Or maybe she just heard me singing? Anyways, can’t they find anybody younger? She’s credible and all but she’s like from the Jurrassic era. And she’s flirting with the contestants! I felt like watching an episode of the twilight zone when she does that! Ew!
Francis-Coolness!But hope he makes his presence more felt.
The contestants
Whenever I watched the American Idol auditions, I realize the depths to which the sanity of their people has sunk. And I thought “Thank God we haven’t sunk that low yet” but when I saw the auditions yesterday. . . I changed my mind. Are those loonies just acting up? Are some of those out-of-this-world auditions scripted? Does these contetstants undergo make up? Are those wigs? Some contestants look worse than those with teenage hair loss problems. In fairness, there seems to be a lot of undiscovered talents yet so despite my skepticisms about the show, I’ll still religiously watch it
P.S. I am really envious of those contestants. Not because of the opportunity to be successful but because of the opportunity to hug Ryan Agoncillo! I think I’ll audition next year. Watch out Juday!LOLS

well, i watched it too, and was wondering if the judges' reactions were also scripted? like when they put their head on the table, or look so shocked or tilt their head when a lunatic contestant belts out. American Idol judges also act like that, right? remember Paula Abdul dancing? Pilita also danced to some of the songs. Hmmm… maybe part of the franchise format huh?
and i'm also amazed at the guts of some contestants, so i also was thinking if it's all scripted. and yeah, the reasons for joining the show, to 'pay for electricity bills'…pretty much describes our country's economic situation. ay matulog na ko uy… ga-yawyaw na ko diri.hehehe..
[3] yeah it must be some kind of a franchise format
salamat sa pag-yaw2x hahaha
