PIIE
August 28, 2006I just got back yesterday from Butuan city. I, along with 6 other officemates who are IEs attended the Vis-Min PIIE convention. I’m not actually interested in these kind of things and did not even attend when it was held several times in Davao. I think conventions are generally boring and provide opportunity for those MOFUs to boast about their achievements(sourgraping!?).But it was at the expense of the company and they provided 2 company vehicles and it’s an opportunity to travel so I went along. We took off at around 12:00 nn last fri and arrived at Butuan at around 5:30 in the afternoon. The conference was last Sat and we came in late at around 9:00 am and left after lunch to take some nap and came back during merienda time. Well, some habits are hard to break
One topic that I was able to listen to during the convention was the regulation for licensure of IEs meaning Board Exams, WTF! We are jokingly called Instant Eng’rs coz we don’t have board exams and we can’t officially place Eng’rs in our names just like Computer Eng’g. Instead we just place, IE after our name. Floraine,IE instead of Eng’r. Floraine. But who cares? I don’t. But I guess some really cared enough that they made an effort to make a proposal. I mean not having an Eng’r. in your name does not make you a lesser person and affect your chances for work. But of course they have other valid reasons why they made such proposal. And I guess it’s for the common good of the universe. Actually if the bill is amended only batch 2008 and succeeding graduates are affected. I’m exempted! I just need to earn points like attend more conventions and such. Anyways,so much for that.
Butuan City now is a far cry from the Butuan I visited with my parents when I was still a kid. It’s livelier. The first thing I noticed was the uniform color of the tricycles, orange. Too bad we were not able to explore the city coz we returned home yesterday morning. We did got the chance to hang out in this bar “Woodstock” where they featured reggae bands and much to my embarrassment, the waitresses wore fatigue uniforms much like the shirt I wore. Thankfully I ate mentos brought a jacket along
Task Force Tado: Popoy,Ailyn,Arthur,Leo,Moi,Glen and Rhea
Note:T*ado is the family name of my new boss and coincidentally his middle name starts with T and many joked that his middle name is Taran.
