The Blower’s Daughter
September 16, 2006
I first heard of the song “The Blower’s Daughter” from the movie, Closer(Love the movie!). It struck a chord in my soul (naks!) that I replayed the first part in the movie several times so I can listen to the music again. The song sounded familiar and so poignant that I vowed to find an mp3 of it. But of course like so many things I vowed to do, I forgot about it. Then accidentally I stumbled upon the song as I was browsing for mp3s in multiply today. I actually found a lot of mp3s(you can listen here) by Damien Rice, the one who sang it. To those who don’t know him, he used to be the vocalist of the group Juniper. He’s from Dublin Ireland (many talented singers from that place). He’s a singer, song writer and painter (Whoa!)The images above are some of his art works. His voice sounds so melancholic and he really writes beautiful minimalist music.Listening to his music feels like looking at a beautiful painting with your mouth hanging open I just can’t put down into words how to describe his music coz I always end up sounding sarcastic whenever I describe something I really love and might ruin it for you
I like the Blower’s Daughter song so much that I decided to make it my blog OST for the moment. The song was about a girl he loved that he decided to make a song for her. However, the moment he sang it in front of her, he realized that he don’t love her anymore( Talk about truth setting you free). The “blower” that he’s referring to here is his Clarinet Teacher, the girl’s father.
You can find the lyrics below: And so it is
Just like you said it would be
Life goes easy on me
Most of the time
And so it is
The shorter story
No love, no glory
No hero in her sky
I can’t take my eyes off of you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes off of you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes…
And so it is
Just like you said it should be
We’ll both forget the breeze
Most of the time
And so it is
The colder water
The blower’s daughter
The pupil in denial
I can’t take my eyes off of you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes off of you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes…
Did I say that I loathe you?
Did I say that I want to
Leave it all behind?
I can’t take my mind off of you
I can’t take my mind off you
I can’t take my mind off of you
I can’t take my mind off you
I can’t take my mind off you
I can’t take my mind…
My mind…my mind…
‘Til I find somebody new
