Korean Wave
October 10, 2006I’ve heard on the news that North Korea has tested some nuclear weapons. Is this a sign of an imminent war between North and South again? Normally, I wouldn’t care less…okay a humane part of me will care. But my main concern is . . .will this affect the Korean Movie Industry? Will there be a shortage of pirated Korean movies? Will I still have a nightlife if there will be a shortage of Korean Movies?
I haven’t been watching TV lately. Every night when I go home, I watch one or two Korean movies on DVD. There is an influx of pirated Korean movies lately that you can buy a compilation of 8 movies for P90 less tawad pa. My fascination for Korean movies started with the movie Sassy Girl that my friend Ruby lent me. Then I watched Windstruck, then Innocent Steps, then A moment to remember and it went on and on. I used to watch only Korean movie love stories but when I watched Taegugki (a movie about the Korean war) I decided to watch all their movies regardless of their genre. I can relate to their humor, I guess most Filipinos can since their culture is not unlike ours. Also they offer unique plots which are a refreshing change from those Hollywood movies which has sex and explosion as the repetitive formula. I also watch Korean novelas, but I have no patience to dutifully watch every episode ‘cept again if a DVD is available and then I’ll have a marathon. I can vividly remember the time when I watched Jewel in the Palace, there are 20 DVDS and I tried to finish 1 DVD per day. Whew, how I lacked sleep then. But that wasn’t my first marathon; I remembered when my housemates and I got addicted to the Chinovela, Meteor Garden. Sigh, F4. My housemate even bought an OST of the show that I can sing Ni Yao De Ai (The closing song) in videoke till now. Anyways, whatever happened to F4 and Barbie Xu? I remembered that after Meteor Garden 2, a friend has read somewhere that there will be a sequel. However, Barbie Xu already refused to sign another contract so they edited the screen play to introduce a new actress effortlessly. They made a scene where Shancai got badly burn and need to undergo a Las Vegas plastic surgery to redo her face.
And oh by the way, this angel, Gong Yoo (the pixes) is the nth reason why I watch Korean movies/novelas
When I grow up, I want to marry him(insert wicked laugh)
