6 Random things about me

November 24, 2006

Been tagged by Psyche by this meme. Once tagged by this entry, write a blog entry of some kind with six random facts about yourself. In the end of it, pick six of your friends and tag them! No tag backs. This explanation must be included, of course.

I already posted some 20 random things about me before but i can’t help but talk about my favorite topic…ME ;-)  But this time i’ll focus on the material things that I associate with myself or am fond of.

1. I’m slightly obsessed with cotton buds
The very first thing I do when I get home from work is grab a cotton bud and plunge it inside my eagerly awaiting ears. I dunno but there’s something gratifying and ticklish about feeling that soft cottony edge against sensitive parts of my ear. I know this could ruin my ears in some way or another but if doing this is wrong then I don’t wanna be right :-)

2. I can survive without rice
There was a time that I didn’t eat rice for a week, not because I was on a diet but because I got fed up. Doesn’t eating rice three times a day have this effect on you?

3. I can’t survive without Tic Tacs
I think those tiny elliptical shaped mints have replaced my need for rice J I always carry one around wherever I go. I found it a fresh entertainment for my mouth …difficult to explain

4. I don’t leave our house without an umbrella, come rain come shine

My mom always reminds me to carry an umbrella everytime i go out of our house but I always forget, intentionally of course. I don’t want to carry that extra weight around. I began heeding her advice starting HS coz I took pity on her. She always waits up for me at the corner where I get off from the tricycle. She would stand there for hours and get all wet from the rain (she’s the best mom in the world) and I got guilty coz sometimes I don’t come home immediately from school so from then on I made sure I always bring an umbrella (so I can come home anytime w/o feeling guilty LOLS)

5. I am fond of Parker Ballpoint pens
During college when everybody was crazy over those G-tec and jelly pens, I stuck with my ever dependable pen. This is because when I was a kid, I envy my dad’s collection of gleaming pens and he gave me one coz I always stole his (he’s the best dad in the world) I eventually lost it but would always buy one just like the pen he gave me for sentimental reasons.

6. I have a weakness for guys who wears eyeglasses even before Harry Potter came along. I don’t know but a guy who wears glasses seems mysterious . . . like he has an “S” suit beneath his ordinary garbs and would always be ready to get you out of any distress you find yourself into.

I am tagging Carey, Leigh, Fencesitter,AlmaritchelMischarmed and Karol, no pressure guys. If you’ve been tagged by this before, you’re excused :-)

The name’s Bond, James Bond

November 21, 2006

I’m a big fan of the James Bond flick which is actually no mystery coz as I’ve mentioned before I have this thing for detectives stories. And James Bond is one of the most glamorous agents on screen. Since I started working, I collected cds of the James Bond movies starting with Dr. No. When I first heard that Daniel Craig was gonna replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, I was terribly disappointed. I think Eric Bana would’ve been fit for the role. HOWEVER, when I watched the movie Casino Royale, I changed my mind. Not because of the butt naked scene. He looks so sizzling hot without his celebrity clothes on (anybody got a pic of that? Been looking all over the net for it *wink*) but coz of Daniel’s acting and the fact that he is not so popular (at least not as popular as Pierce) that he did not overshadow the role unlike Pierce. I also like the fact that the movie Casino Royale, focused on the plot and character rather than techie stuffs and explosive scenes. I know this must be because the story was supposed to explain James’ beginnings and how he became an 007 but I hope this would continue.

I’m looking forward to more of Daniel Craigs’ revelation as James Bond. . .talent wise, that is.

I know what you did while you were in college

November 17, 2006

It happened on Christmas Eve last year, I got a message from an unregistered number saying that she’s my classmate Ruby Jean and she got my number from another classmate. She asked how I was and the usual blah blahs but there’s something about her message that doesn’t ring true so I verified with my other classmates about her number. It turned out that it’s not Ruby Jean’s number, so I texted the number and said to prove to me that she really is my classmate. She then called me up and I don’t recognize the voice. When I told her she doesn’t sound like the Ruby Jean I know, she said that she has a cough and that she was using her husband’s number. She knew the names of my classmates and seems really anxious to know our whereabouts but it just feels weird coz she got some details wrong like who worked where and who got married. Anyways, I called up the real Ruby Jean and she said she have no idea who the prank caller is. I called up the number again and the same voice answered but this time she claimed that she didn’t call or know me. Anyways, I got busy and forgot about it when a week later another classmate got the call from somebody claiming that she’s Ruby Jean again. It was the same number. I changed phone numbers after that and heard nothing about the prank calls from my other classmates. But just last Wednesday, the prank caller strikes back. She contacted two of my classmates and now claims that she’s Agnes and she’s asking for info about our classmates. Another unregistered number is also threatening one of my classmate and we suspect it’s the same person. When a friend of Agnes called her up, she claimed that she’s Agnes and was able to answer the info about Agnes correctly. My friend Agnes is really bothered by this and doesn’t know how to deal with it. All of my classmates are truly mystified by this and wanted to unravel who the caller is but we are clueless on how to do it. Coz the number is pre-paid and even if it is post-paid/plan I’m not sure the network would divulge any info. We don’t know what the prank caller really wants. I feel like I’m in an “I know what you did last summer” kind of movie hehehe Maybe it’s a vengeful teacher whom we didn’t listen to while in college or a classmate whom we labeled as loser, the kind that nobody bothers to talk to or befriend but nah we weren’t that cruel. I can’t simply understand why some people would do this kind of thing and what can they get out of it. The Nancy Drew in me wanted to solve this mystery and the psycho in me just can’t accept that there are patients out there sicker than me :-D

Six Degrees of Separation

November 8, 2006

I recently joined Davao sale, a Davao online sales exchange. I just used to browse this site but was tempted to join when I noticed their Books category. There are a lot of cheap books on sale so the book worm in me squirmed with glee so I signed up. I posted that I’m looking for Nancy Drew hardbound books (I collect them).

There were some replies but the one reply that I found interesting was this:

hi! if you are aware of the new series of nancy drew books that were released this year lang, my barkada did the art work and he’s back here in davao for a few months lang. if may copy ka i can have him sign it hehe! My first thought was, WTF? I’m not looking for an autograph, I’m looking for a book.Duh!
But the sensible side of me who still believes in unicorns got fascinated coz it was a manifestation once again of the theory of 6 degrees of separation or commonly known as the “it’s a small world” phenomenon.

Around the corner

November 5, 2006

Around the corner I have a friend
In this great city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year is gone

And I never see my old friends face,
For life is a swift and terrible race,
He knows I like him just as well
As in the days when I rang his bell, And he rang mine.
We were younger then,
And now we are busy, tired men.
Tired of playing a foolish game,
Tired of trying to make a name.
“Tomorrow” I say “I will call on John”
“Just to show that I’m thinking of him”

But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows and grows.
Around the corner!-yet miles away,
“Here’s a telegram sir-”
“John died today.”
And that’s what we get and deserve in the end.
Around the corner, a vanished friend.

Repopsicled

November 4, 2006

I posted an ad for Popsicle mp3s before. I wasn’t really hopeful coz not many seemed to have heard of the band and those who remembered it don’t have any Mp3s either.
Just what really makes Popsicle special too me? There’s just something about their songs that transports me back to my HS days when life was simpler. There’s this X quality to their songs makes you wanna take a long drive on a country road somewhere with the windows open … wind whipping on your face and reminisce those good old days with your stereo playing Popsicle of course. I thought I was the only one who felt like that but I found some kindred souls from different sides of the globe. I’m really thankful that they bothered to respond and sent me some mp3s.

First to respond was Radix who sent me an email with the mp3s and we both agreed that the alternative music from the 90’s absolutely rocks. We now correspond regularly to exchange mp3s from obscure bands. He was the one who introduced me to Depapepe, a Japanese acoustic Duo. Coolness.

Next, was mangz74 who sent me the whole Popsicle Lacquer album. Yehey! Alright! I found it funny coz I thought he was American and we talked in English for a while when I thought of asking where’s he from, he told me he was originally from the Philippines and a bisdak too. He also thought I was from Europe or something until he read some Bisaya comments in my blog. Toink! He was with a band and was pretty active in the music scene before here in the Phils. but stopped and some of their colleagues are now popular and . . .ok I think I’m saying too much and getting sidetracked from my topic.

Anyways, THANK YOU GUYS for spreading some love and cheers.

I can now die in peace.

Mmmm..Not really, I’m still waiting for Mick (from DK?) to reply. He said he have a copy of all the Popsicle albums (Lacquer, Stand up and Testify, Popsicle, Abstinence and The Good Side Of…)

The Killers

November 2, 2006

I wanna stand up, I wanna let go
You know, you know - no you don’t, you don’t
I wanna shine on in the hearts of men
I wanna mean it from the back of my broken hand

It seeps through the pores of your skin… enters your ears and it escapes through your mouth and gains control of your hands and head. That’s how I would describe the songs from the rock band, The Killers. A bit exaggerated but that’s how I feel when I first heard of Mr. Brightside and now my current favorite All these things that I’ve done. Both songs are from their debut album Hot Fuss released last 2004. My love for the band was reawakened when Sam’s town, their new album was released last October. As a kid from the 80’s ,the bands new-wave synthtastic sound, reminiscent of New Order, The cure, The smiths and other great 80’s band, highly appeals to me. The band is not British, although vocalist Brandon Flowers sometimes sings with a faux British accent. The band is actually from Las Vegas, Nevada that’s probably why they have this Larger than Life feel.

Left: Before their new album.

Right:Their new look!It may look like another band, but yeah it’s still them.
