February 26, 2007I think I’m getting addicted to ending my sentence or phrases even my text messages with a series of periods or dots like these. . . I prefer dots with a space in between dot space dot space dot space over dots dots dots
I like it way better than spa ces or other characters like this ! or this ? or these !?
The periods have more character…it gives depth to my shallow sentences…it makes it more mysterious….more witty …keeps the reader hanging and it disguises the fact that I can’t compose decent sentences.. at least I like to believe it does
The periods allows me a bit of freedom…it allows me to combine jumbled thoughts into a cluster of jumbled thoughts
I can’t exactly recall when this compulsion started…my fingers started it…it seemed to have a mind of it’s own and likes to tap the period key not once…not twice but at least three times… maybe this is what I get from reading Danielle Steel during HS…she likes dots too…or maybe it even started way back during grade school… ..i remember my fourth grade English teacher saying that we should never forget to put punctuation marks esp. periods at the end of our sentence so the readers can breathe…look ma’am I’m outdoing myself…ending sentences with not just one but a series of periods…I’m sure the readers can breathe. That English teacher died while I was in sixth grade and I thought a pupil must have forgotten to end his sentence with a period and my teacher was not able to breathe… to this day I didn’t who that pupil was but to prevent recurrence of deaths due to non-punctuation… and just because i like it..I’m giving you these fat dots . . .
~and i say to myself…soon i'm gonna make sense

Posted by Leigh at February 28, 2007, 9:24 amHaha! Have the same fascination for those li’l round marks. Putting those extra dots is like saying “to be continued”.. Or, “that’s not all there is”.. At least for me.
@cheska:
hanging for more when there’s actually none hehehe
@leigh: powerful mo lang!
@jae:same here…same here
Posted by Raine at February 28, 2007, 8:09 pmsame hereeee… i’m fond of using those dots. i’ve read somewhere it also shows the writer as being unsure or something like that…
it’s like the sentence is not final.
they […] are aptly called “ellipsis marks.”
