Must love cats and dogs

July 26, 2007

Our dog Sandara  gave birth to two puppies a month ago. Sadly, only one made it alive. My nephew named the remaining puppy, Britney. Britney has grown up so fast and has already developed a personality different from her mother. For instance Britney plays with our cats unlike her mother who despises cats. She actually sleeps with the cats. She also doesn’t complain when my nephew plays with her and dresses her up. Anyways I plan to pimp her up and make her wear jeweled collar and stuffs despite her breed coz she’s cute anyway J The Gilded Paw, an online shop, can help me with pimping my dog. They offer various quality brand name luxury items for cats and dogs. I’m eyeing some airline approved cat carriers that would fit our cats and even Britney and looks very handy and useful for travelling plus some dog furniture so I can also pimp our pets’ “homes”.

Baby Shower

July 25, 2007

It’ always fun to plan parties. Yes it's also pretty tiring but the effort is well worth it in the end. I myself have planned birthday parties and bridal showers but a baby shower…not yet. That’s why when a friend asked me to help her plan for our other friend’s baby shower, I was a bit reluctant. I love babies but I just didn’t have any idea how a baby shower goes as I haven’t planned or attended one before. But since I love my friend of course I didn’t say no. Instead I asked around and surfed the net for ideas. One of the sites I found was PartyPail. You can find baby shower decorations, themes and other needed supplies in their site. I found some cool themes like the little princess theme which I would love to have as a theme on my next birthday LOLS But since my friend is expecting a baby boy as she’s already 5 months pregnant, I think the Red Wagon Baby Shower theme (see picture above)would be more fitting. Hey looking at those themes got me pretty excited about planning this baby shower, I’ll make sure it’ll be a blast :-)

The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Middlemarch by George Eliot
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzenhitsyn

I wondered why some equally great books were not included on the list, maybe I have to make my own list hehehe I only read 10 out of 30 but i'm planning to read all of them. I actually plan to read all classic books before kingdom come.

What book will replace Harry Potter?

July 24, 2007

That is probably the question going through most of Harry Potter fans now that the 7th book in the popular series by JK Rowling has been released and Harry Potters' magical journey has come to an end. Publishers have been searching and have come up with several authors but they have come to recognize that it would be very difficult to match Rowling's success. Personally, the next book should offer something original and different from the HP Series. It shouldn't be about witches and fantasy stuff but something set in a different or perhaps a more realistic scene. However it should offer the same entertainment value to both children and adult alike.Whatever that book is, i'm certainly looking forward to it.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Movie

After much anticipation the 5th installment of the Harry Potter series was finally shown. I watched it last week and i know there a lot of reviews out there but oh well I still feel this need to air out what i've got to say. Well for those who have religiously read the books, the movie was a bit dissapointing. Books are always better than the movie and there are only rare occasions when the movie actually capture the essence of the book…just like the LOTR series, I read the book and I loved the movie versions. Of course i wasn't expecting that the movie would depict all the scene from the book but i just didn't like some of the portrayal of the scenes and characters. Here are some of them:

  • Dolores Umbridge should be ugly, somebody you would hate at first sight.

  • I didn't like the fight scene at the Ministry of Magic, it was a bit overboard, it should have been simpler with emphasis on the spells.

  • Cho Chang should'nt have been portrayed as the traitor. They made it look like Harry dumped her because she betrayed the DA.

  • The cleaning of the Grimmauld's living room should've been shown because it is where they had the first encounter with the locket which turned out to be the Horcrux.

  • I was most dissapointed with Fred and George's grand exit from Hogwarts, it should've been more grander.

There are still some but I forgot to take notes during the show.In fairness, the show was entertaining…maybe I just set such high expectations.

Sex and the City Movie

Speaking of reunions, another group of my favorite girls are planning to get back together. This time it's Carey(Sarah Jessica Parker),Miranda(Cynthia Nixon),Charlotte(Kristin Davis) and Samantha(Kim Cattrall) from Sex and the City. I was pretty sad when this show from HBO ended last 2004.The plot was pretty interesting and I and i'm sure a lot of others can relate to the story of the girls.Plus don't forget the girls clothes, esp. Carey's. She has become a fashion icon because of the show because her exquisite clothes and accessories. Anyways, there is  a plan to bring this TV Show to life in the big screen sometime next year. Actually the plan has been brewing for some time but there were a lot of things to settle. Nothings definite yet and the negotiations and plans are currently ongoing. But a script is beig written so I guess there's hope for this movie to actually materialize.I'll be looking forward to the movie for sure.
